2024 Mary Pazdur Awarded to UH Cancer Researcher, Christa Braun-Inglis
November 20, 2024

Christa Braun-Inglis, oncology nurse practitioner and researcher, received the Mary Pazdur Award for her achievements in breaking down barriers that prevent Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) from participating in clinical trials. As a strong advocate for the inclusion of APPs in National Cancer Institute (NCI)-sponsored trials, Christa has expanded their involvement in research and improved access to cutting-edge therapies, particularly for underserved communities. By bridging the gap between clinical care and research, she is helping to improve patient outcomes and advance cancer care standards.
Christa works as an associate researcher at the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center, where she advances cancer care through clinical trials. She also practices at Hawaiʻi Pacific Health in the Breast Medical Oncology division. After earning her nursing degree and master’s at the University of Hawaiʻi, Christa became a nurse practitioner with a focus on medical oncology. She then went on to obtain her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2021.
“I am honored and humbled to have received the Mary Pazdur Award.” said Christa, “I believe in the value that advanced practice providers bring to oncology care teams. My passion to empower advanced practice providers' role in clinical research can only increase patient access to clinical trials and improve outcomes. Mary was an amazing advanced practice provider in her own right and to be recognized by my peers by receiving this award is truly amazing.
Christa received the Mary Pazdur Award on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology, JADPROLive, conference in Dallas, Texas. This annual award honors an outstanding oncology advanced practitioner who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of oncology through leadership, innovation, and a deep commitment to improving patient care via excellence in clinical practice, research, and collaboration. The award is named in memory of Mary Pazdur, NP, who dedicated her life and career to caring for her family and her patients.
