Quest for a Cure: Progress in Cancer Research
The Quest for a Cure is a public education event hosted annually by the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center. The Quest is an event for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer and wants to learn more about the disease. Topics include different cancer types and related cancer issues. Speakers include researchers from the UH Cancer Center as well as clinician partners from our oncology community.
This is the 12th year of the Quest for a Cure: Progress in Cancer Research. This year the Quest is being held in person as well as via Zoom webinars.

In this series, speakers will overview the background, process, opportunities, and challenges of participating in clinical trials.
Objectives
- Identify different types of clinical trials
- Describe the phases of clinical trials
- Explain 3 major factors which pose as barriers to clinical trial participation
- Understand clinical trials from the perspective of nurses, participants, patients, and caregivers.
Patient Empowerment |
We invite you to attend the kick-off of our 2023 Quest for a Cure series. Speakers will identify strategies for patients and their caregivers to become empowered and gain greater control during their cancer journeys.
Objectives
Though every journey is different, we will identify strategies for patients and their caregivers to be empowered during their cancer journeys.
- Identify at least two strategies that people can act upon to affect their health.
- Through their cancer journeys, speakers will explain why patient empowerment is important.
