Nutrition Support Project
Healthy Diet and Lifestyle (HDL) Study
The HDL was a pilot study to demonstrate feasibility and explore efficacy of following an intermittent energy restriction (IER) diet over 2 contiguous days and the DASH diet for 7 contiguous days over 12 weeks to reduce visceral adipose tissue among East Asians in Hawaiʻi. The NSSR assisted with diet material preparation, participant randomization, diet consultation for the initial in-person visit and follow-up phone calls, dietary data entry for the mobile food records, and nutrient and food group analysis. The pilot provided the support to secure funding from NIH to compare the IER to continuous energy restriction using a fully powered study.
